2024 Fire Department of the Year Award Winner - The St. Peter Fire Protection DisctrictNormal, IL – The St. Peter Fire Protection District was honored as the Fire Department of the Year at August's 143rd Illinois Association of Mutual Insurance Companies Convention. IAMIC’s Executive Director, Jackie Rakers, presented them with the award on Friday, September 6th. Kathy Bray at Wilberton Mutual nominated them. “The St. Peter Fire Protection District services 1,200 people with a team of 28 fire volunteers, including First Responders. The volunteers are well-prepared, enthusiastic, and dedicated to serving the community. They are eager to serve the surrounding communities by working with local businesses to organize community and holiday events throughout the year, including educating at local schools.” The St. Peter Protection District demonstrated its dedication to its community earlier in 2024. A fire broke out downtown, threatening many local businesses. The district coordinated with seven other local fire departments in a Minus 26-degree wind chill to keep the flames contained and damage limited. They are an excellent example of fearlessness, loyalty, and bravery. As active as they are brave and committed, the St. Peter Protection District is a model for the many fire departments in our state. The courage and determination this department has diligently shown toward the betterment and safety of their community earn them badges of honor with every service call.
